Vic: No beer price war, Lion Nathan says

New Zealand brewing giant Lion Nathan has promised there'll be no price wars with rival
company Carlton and United.

The company, which produces Tooheys and Hahn beers, will invest $100 million in a bid
to infiltrate the lucrative market -- currently dominated by Fosters and VB beers.

Lion Nathan Australia managing director WALTER BUGNO said yesterday the company's only
interested in capturing its share of the market.

Mr BUGNO says it's not a case of having a war with Fosters but there is an opportunity
to get some share in the Victorian market.

Lion Nathan currently enjoys a 41.6 per cent share of the Australian beer market but
only a 12.6 per cent share of the Victorian industry.

State and Regional Development Minister JOHN BRUMBY has heralded it a new era of growth
in the hospitality industry.

He says the announcement is a $100 million vote of confidence in Victoria.
