NSW: NSW Opposition behind government on Baker appeal

SYDNEY, Feb 4 AAP - The NSW opposition today backed the state government's legislative
right to lock up criminals for life.

Allan Baker and Kevin Crump were jailed for life in 1974 for the murder of Ian Lamb
and conspiracy to murder Virginia Morse.

In handing down the sentences, the trial judge recommended their files be marked "never
to be released".

But Baker is appealing to the High Court against NSW laws, introduced retrospectively,
that would guarantee he spent the rest of his life behind bars.
